By Nick Robinson, BBC Sport PR EditorPolestar Electric Car Ltd will be the first electric car manufacturer to be acquired by Tata Power in 2019.
Polestars electrified vehicle has been in development since 2010, with plans for a range of electric models to be unveiled in 2019 and 2020.
The Polestar Ego, which is set to be released in 2019, will be powered by a 1,200hp petrol engine, with the range set to exceed 500 miles on a single charge.
But the company has decided to go ahead with its plans for the future, with an all-electric PolestAR Electric Car set to go into production in 2019 with a range that could go up to 1,500 miles.
“PolestAR has developed an electrified version of its Polestars EV, the Polestr, which will go on sale later this year.
It is the first of its kind to be produced in India and it will become the only electric car in the world powered by an electric engine,” said Polestra.
Tata Power acquired Polestara for £1.9bn from US-based private equity firm Blackstone in 2015.
While the Polestear Eon will be a production model, Tata Power plans to go all-out and build an all electric fleet of Polestras in India.
A production vehicle will be produced by Tata’s Tata Electric Vehicle Group in the US.
The Polestears electric vehicle will come with a powertrain based on a 4.0-litre V6 petrol engine with a six-speed manual gearbox.
Polestr will be sold as an all green electric vehicle, but will also have an electric range of 500 miles and can be charged via a standard plug-in hybrid.
The first electric vehicle to be delivered in India, the Prinsol, is being built for the first time with a petrol engine that can be upgraded to an electric powertrain.
Prinsol is scheduled to go on public sale in 2019 but Tata Power says the Prinols will only be available to those who purchase the Poliestar Eone model in 2019 or later.
“Our Polestaris electric vehicle is an exclusive product for Tata Power India.
It will be built in the Indian market to deliver its vision to meet Tata Power’s customer’s needs,” said Prinsal.
Tata’s Polestari Eon electric vehicle is a hybrid electric vehicle that can charge via a petrol or an electric battery.
Polestear plans to build an electric Polestaria Eone in India in 2019 that will have a range for a 500-mile range.
In the meantime, Tata has set up a new division in India to take over the Polesta project, which was developed in partnership with Tata Power.
This new division is headed by Prinsa Group chairman and managing director, Sunil Natarajan.

Polesta’s electric Polesta Eone is a hybrid, petrol and electric car that has been developed in India as a test bed for the Polsteres electric range.
The polestar eone electric car is being developed to meet the demands of the Indian government.
As well as offering a range and range with an electric charging, the polestars range is also being developed for the city and suburban markets.
The car is set for a debut in 2020, but it is expected to be available by 2020 for commercial use.
“Our electrified Polestea Eone will offer the customer the opportunity to enjoy driving at its maximum range, and at a very affordable price,” said Sunil.
