Buyer beware: electric car sales are soaring and a new car from Tesla Motors could be on the way.
The company announced on Tuesday that it’s going to start selling an electric car at the price of $1,600, but that won’t include the $1k starting price of the Model 3, the first of the three cars.
Tesla’s new car will be based on the Model X SUV.
Tesla says it plans to begin selling the car in late 2017.
The price will be slightly higher than the Model S, but still a good deal for the car’s entry-level performance and price tag.
“The Model X is a great example of a vehicle that is built for the road, but it also has all of the functionality and comfort of an SUV,” Tesla CEO Elon Musk said in a statement.
Tesla also announced the Model Y, a more premium, sporty SUV with a much higher starting price, but the company says it’s still a great value at $2,100.
The Model Y is the first new electric vehicle that Tesla plans to make available to the public, and will come with a $1 million financing package.
The automaker is hoping to make its Model X a more mainstream option for those looking for a plug-in hybrid option.
Tesla expects to have the car on the road by 2021.
“We know that the Model y is the next step in Tesla’s journey from a mass-market electric vehicle to a mass market mass market EV,” Musk said.
The pricing of the Tesla Model X starts at $1 and the Model Model Y starts at just $2.
This is a good price for the entry-tier performance and performance features, plus the convenience and safety of an EV.
We can’t wait to see this car hit the road.
Tesla already has two Model X sedans, the Model XX and the X. It also has a Model X crossover SUV and a Model 3 sedan.
The Tesla Model 3 will cost $60,000, but Musk says the company will sell that car as an extended vehicle.
The first Model 3 is due out later this year.
